On Wednesday, January 31st, the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux held a Memorial Mass for Bishop Dorsonville at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales on the eve of his funeral Mass and burial.
The diocesan community was provided several opportunities to pray together for comfort in Christ amid the loss of their shepherd. A wake for Bishop Dorsonville took place from 9:30am to 5:30pm. Bishop Emeritus Sam Jacobs led Liturgy of the Hours Evening Prayer before the Mass. The Pontifical Choir of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and the Schola Cantorum of Notre Dame Seminary provided music.
Archbishop Shelton Fabre of Louisville was the celebrant and Bishop Michael Fisher of Buffalo was the homilist. Bishop Fisher said, “Bishop Mario’s legacy as a priest, and desire as a shepherd, is to encourage each of us to be pleasing in the Lord so that when we die, we too may go…with hearts filled with joy…to the Kingdom of God.”
Diocesan leadership expressed gratitude to all who took time to stand and pray for the Rites of Transfer, paid respects at the wake or prayed through Vespers and the Memorial Mass. Let us all remain unified in prayer and in the Lord.
